(305 words) The story “Childhood” is an autobiographical work of Maxim Gorky, whose main character is Alyosha Peshkov. From the very beginning, he appears before us as a small and frightened boy, due to the fact that his father is dying, and he is forced to move with his mother to the house of his grandparents, where there was a gloomy atmosphere that will greatly affect all the inhabitants of the house: “I did not live well, I felt a feeling close to despair, but for some reason I wanted to hide it, I was afraid, mischievous.”
A little later, his mother leaves Alyosha, and he is forced to get used to new foundations. He does not like his uncles, cousins, and most importantly - his grandfather. And as it turns out, not in vain. Alyosha's grandfather was a very formidable man who punished all children for any disobedience with the rods. So the turn came to Alyosha. For the first time, the grandfather detects the boy to a loss of consciousness and so that he then could not get out of bed for a very long time. This moment will be a turning point in the life of the hero. It was as if a breakdown had occurred in his soul, which is why in his further existence in the house he will manifest himself more agile, more obstinate. For all this, he was ready to dutifully receive beatings from his grandfather. If not for her grandmother - Akulina Ivanovna, perhaps the grandson could have taken the wrong path or become like his grandfather. But his grandmother's love and care helped him find the strength to live and drive the longing that could suddenly fall upon him.
Also, his buddies in Alyosha kept faith in good people - Gypsy (apprentice in the house of Alyosha’s grandfather) and a parasite nicknamed “Good Deed”. Grandmother and Gypsy helped the hero, in spite of everything, not to give up, to feel sorry for people, to distinguish good and evil, and “Good Deed” instilled a love of reading, always helped with a good word, and conducted all kinds of experiments with him. All this combined influenced Alyosha and thanks to these people he was able to remain primarily a man and release all the insults he experienced in his difficult childhood.
