(295 words) Evgeny Aleksandrovich Yevtushenko was born July 18, 1932 in the Irkutsk region into a non-poetic family - both of his parents were geologists. Initially, he was Evgeni Gangnus by father, but then he takes the mother's maiden name: with her after the divorce of his parents, he goes to Moscow.
There he enters the Literary Institute. Gorky, however, three years later he was expelled for supporting the work of V. Dudintsev, who criticized the Soviet system. After that, the future writer preferred to engage in self-education.
In 1986-1991, Yevtushenko worked on the board of the Writers' Union, where he was the youngest member. He later joins Memorial and receives a position in the April Writers Association.
Publications of Yevtushenko's early works appeared before the public in the famous Soviet Sport newspaper in 1949. The fifties were a very fruitful period for the poet, in which poetry collections were released, for example, The Third Snow. In 1961, the poem "Babi Yar" was created, which tells of the monstrous execution by Nazis of Jewish families in Kiev. His prose work, Pearl Harbor, is published. In the seventies, Yevtushenko wrote several poetic works. His poetry takes on a military character. In the eighties, he paid much attention to journalism and worked on a book from the articles "Talent is a miracle not accidental." Here Yevtushenko acts as a critic: on the example of famous writers, he reveals his vision of the writer's duty and responsibility to the reader and humanity. In his work, he talks a lot about civic duty. Then he publishes a series of collections of poems, including “Last Attempt,” “My Emigration,” and others.
The poet is often reproached for self-praise and excessive pathos, but he had something to be proud of. For his literary work, the poet received 23 domestic and foreign awards. Yevtushenko remains one of the most beloved poets in Russia. His poetry is diverse and innovative, and his talent is recognized even abroad. Most recently, he was nominated for the Nobel Prize. But, unfortunately, on April 1, 2017, the author died due to cardiac arrest. As was bequeathed to the creator, he was buried in Peredelkino near Boris Pasternak.
