(232 words) Often children are much kinder than adults, they are less affected by prejudice, they often trust the heart. Perhaps that is why the main character of the story Korolenko is still not an adult boy Vasya. In fact, the children in this work personify two different worlds. Vasya is a city boy from a wealthy family. Valek and Maroussia are homeless children who do not have their own home and live in a “dungeon”. They are considered foster children of Tyburtia, and therefore belong to a "bad society."
Despite all the differences and belonging to different social groups, children easily find a common language. It is they who, through their communication, make two distant worlds touch each other. They have a special friendship that knows no barriers. Already after a short time of communication, Vasya becomes attached to her new friends and risks her relations with her father in order to meet friends. He sincerely does not understand why people cannot communicate if they feel good with each other.
A significant episode is Vasya’s decision to present his sister’s little sick Marusa with a doll. The boy acts selflessly and selflessly. He is ready to do anything in order to make his new friend better. This does not only mean that he is caring and merciful, but also that he is a person with willpower. Forced father deception becomes a real test for him.
Children are the center of the work of Korolenko. With the help of children's images, the author conveys to the reader the main thoughts of his work. Having seen the “bad society” through the eyes of Vasya, the reader begins to understand that behind the vices, the poor and the dirt, the tragedy of the lives of these people is visible.
